The Atalaya Castle area in Huntington Beach State Park is a favorite photography location for many local Myrtle Beach photographers. This was the home of Atalaya Huntington about 100 years ago while she was making many of the statues found in Brookgreen Gardens. It’s my favorite location for family portraits, engagement and senior pictures because it’s less crowded than other locations and has a beautiful beach.
The castle courtyard itself is very pretty with lots of palm trees and old brickwork. I don’t often take pictures inside the courtyard because public access closes at 5pm. Most times of the year this doesn’t line up well with with the sunset. However around the outside of the castle still has a lot of great spots for pictures.
